According to City Engineer Joe Schroeder’s documents attached to the agenda, both of the street lights are being requested to be installed on 20th Avenue in between Ohlman and Quail streets, and 21st Avenue in between Pheasant and Quail streets. Monday's meeting will be held at City Hall.
Northwestern Energy, the electricity utility company that the city occasionally works with, have recommended one street light per-city block. The street lights for the proposed streets will be constructed at the intersections of the newly developing areas.
According to Schroeder, street lights are installed free of charge to the City of Mitchell if the wood pole is installed by Northwestern Energy. The city is then charged $13.74 a month per light to the once it is installed.
The council will also consider approving the installation of a water tank mixer for the south water tower during Monday’s meeting.
According to Public Works Director Kyle Croce’s document submitted to the council, the city currently has one mixer installed in the south storage water tank. However, Croce noted a consultant recently found the water tank was “experiencing problems with nitrification,” which fluctuated greater during warm temperature months.
Those problems resulted in lower chlorine residual levels, and an increase in the frequency to flush the south water tower, according to Croce. As part of the solution, the city’s consultants, SPN and Associates and Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc., recommended the installation of a second mixer for the water tank.
The installation of the second mixer would cost the city $18,250. Previously, the city’s utility water division budgeted $50,000 in 2020 for clear well repairs at the water treatment plant, which came under budget. Therefore, the city has over $19,000 left over from the past project, which will be used to fund the $18,250 water tower mixer project.
