East Genesee Street in DeWitt near Wegmans closed due to fire reported at hair salon - syracuse.com

Update: East Genesee Street reopened around 4 p.m., though police remain at the scene.

DeWitt, N.Y. — Part of East Genesee Street in DeWitt is closed Saturday afternoon due to a reported fire.

The fire at Hair Shed Salon, just east of Wegmans, was reported to the Onondaga County 911 Center shortly before noon. An Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad vehicle arrived at the hair salon, at 6840 E. Genesee St., before 2 p.m.

East Genesee Street is closed in both directions between Lyndon Road and Maple Drive.

Firefighters from DeWitt, Fayetteville and East Syracuse were called to the scene, as was the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, DeWitt police and Manlius police.

Authorities have not yet released any information about the fire.
