As part of the “Oakland Slow Streets” temporary project, 74 miles of the city’s streets will be off-limits to thru traffic, allowing residents more space to walk, bike and run, while maintaining a social distance of 6 feet apart, during the coronavirus shutdown. The closed streets are not closed to emergency vehicles, and drivers should avoid these streets unless it is necessary to access their homes, or in emergency situations. The emergency measure by Mayor Libby Schaaf will close West Street from West Grand to 14th Street; Arthur Street from Havenscourt Boulevard (from 78th Ave, connecting to Plymouth St from 78th to 104th Avenue); E. 16th Street from Foothill Boulevard to Fruitvale Avenue; and 42nd Street from Adeline to Broadway.
