CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Street work slated to begin Thursday on two major roads in Cleveland will disrupt traffic in parts of the downtown and the Clark-Fulton neighborhood for at least seven months.
The projects involve work on Clark Avenue on the West Side and a portion of West Prospect Avenue downtown. In both cases traffic will be reduced to one direction, the Ohio Department of Transportation said.
The Clark Avenue work will be done between West 41st Street and West 25th Street. Eastbound traffic will be maintained, but westbound traffic will be detoured south West 25th to Interstate 71, west on I-71 to Fulton Road and north on Fulton to West 41st.
The detour is expected to be in effect through September, ODOT said.
The work is part of a larger project that involves Clark Avenue from West 41st in the heart of Clark-Fulton to Quigley Road in Tremont north of Steelyard Commons.
The work also includes drainage and waterline maintenance, traffic signal work, pavement repairs and streetscape improvements.
The work downtown will affect Prospect between Ontario Street and West Superior Avenue near the end of the Detroit Superior bridge.
When work begins Thursday traffic will be limited to eastbound only. Westbound traffic will be rerouted via Huron Road.
The work on Prospect is part of a larger maintenance project on the West Huron Road bridge. It includes bridge joint replacement, bridge deck resurfacing and sealing and sidewalk replacement on West Huron Road, West Prospect Avenue, West 6th St., West 3rd Street and West 2nd Street.
The detour is expected to be in place until late November, ODOT said.
