Fire damaged several buildings Friday night along Elizabeth Street in Phillipsburg, the town’s fire chief reports.
The American Red Cross New Jersey Region reports it responded to help five people from two families who were displaced by the fire on Elizabeth Street.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The fire was reported shortly before 8 p.m. on the street, which is about a block long just off South Main Street, in the area of Delaware River Railroad Excursions.
“We were confronted, with several heavily involved buildings on very tight streets, with numerous exposure issues [and] tough apparatus placement, yet fire was contained to buildings of origin,” Phillipsburg Fire Chief Rich Hay said on Twitter.
