On August 24, 2021, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 200 block of Edgebrook Drive for the report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located a 28-year-old male suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to his chest. Responding officers and a concerned citizen rendered medical aid until the victim was transported to a local hospital. The victim succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was driving a silver Chevy Impala through a business parking lot in the 1500 block of North Neil Street. Another vehicle turned into the parking lot from Edgebrook Drive and as it passed the Impala, an unidentified occupant fired a round into the Impala, striking the victim. The victim left the parking lot and accelerated west onto Edgebrook Drive where he lost consciousness and veered off the roadway in the 200 block of Edgebrook Drive, driving through the front yard and garage of a residence before the Impala came to rest against a neighboring property.
Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
