With the Woodward Dream Cruise happening this weekend, Auburn Hills is reminding drivers the city has “zero tolerance” for street racing within city limits.
Those caught street racing or driving at excessive speeds will be charged with reckless driving and have their vehicles impounded, the city wrote in a press release.
Additional police officers will be out on the roads during the Dream Cruise weekend, conducting traffic enforcement.
This announcement comes in the wake of an incident that took place Sunday, Aug. 15, in which a 20-year-old Rochester hills man was killed in a crash on the I-75 Chrysler exit ramp.
The man’s vehicle was reportedly traveling at “an extremely high rate of speed,” and was modified with “high-performance enhancements.”
“We want everyone to enjoy their time safely out on the roads,” wrote Ryan Gagnon, Deputy Chief of Police. “We will take necessary steps to enforce the law to prevent unnecessary and tragic deaths from occurring.”
“Please be safe and enjoy the Dream Cruise experience in a responsible manner.”
