The City of Greenbush’s Main Street water main replacement project officially began with construction on Monday, July 12. As a result, most businesses will have access by their rear entrances during construction and some will have limited access through their front entrances.
As review, the first part of this water main replacement project will run along the backside of Oak Street to County Road 4, including some looping along Oak Street. Then from County Road Four, it will wrap around to Main Street North and continue down the street until hitting Minnesota Avenue.
As for part two of this water main replacement project, it will run along Main Street from the Minnesota Avenue intersection and south to the Highway 11 intersection, including two blocks.
The city is also doing revitalization work—some of which will take place in the same Main Street area as part two of this water main project— thanks largely to the Small Cities Development Program grant funding it received. This revitalization work will coincide with part two of the water main project.
Specifically, this grant funding—courtesy of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED)— will help the city fund the following revitalization work: rehab of eight single-family low-income houses, six commercial buildings, four rental units, and Main Street streetscape improvements, such as sidewalk reconstruction, street lighting, and some aesthetic work (example: planters). The city won’t have any assessments for the sidewalks and street work, as the DEED grant is covering it.
