An apparent street-racing crash in Chula Vista left a woman dead and two children injured on Saturday. Police said Sunday that they arrested one of the drivers, but they’re still searching for a second vehicle.
The collision happened at L Street and Third Avenue about 6 p.m.
Witnesses told officers that two vehicles were racing west on L when one of the vehicles — a 2010 Ford Mustang — ran a red light while driving on the wrong side of the road and smashed into a Nissan Altima. OnScene TV reported two other cars that were behind the Nissan also crashed into the car and collided with each other.
The woman driving the Altima died in the crash, police said. She was not identified. Two boys, ages 7 and 10, were also in the Altima and were taken to a hospital. They are both expected to be OK, police said Sunday. The children were related to the woman who died.
The 22-year-old driver of the vehicle that crossed into oncoming traffic was arrested in connection with the crash. He is currently in the hospital with back injuries. Police are still searching for the second vehicle that was involved in the street race. That vehicle was described as a 2014 or newer white Subaru WRX.
