Update On Beach 129th Street Construction | The Wave - Wave of Long Island

A sketch of what the future storefronts will look like.

Construction on the building at 431 Beach 129th Street in Belle Harbor, where the medical offices once were, is currently underway with a plan for five new stores to move into the space upon its anticipated completion in Spring 2022.

“The first two stores are going to be ready [at] the end of August I think, and then the other three will be [at] the end of November, ” Annette Farina of Belle Harbor Realty, who sold the building late last year, told The Wave. “It’s five stores from front to back.”

Michael Marino, the President of MJM Associate Contracting, purchased the building as a commercial unit for $2.7 million and closed on it on January 21st, according to StreetEasy.com.

The property, which once housed St. John’s Medical Group and offered limited parking to its patrons, will undergo significant changes in the coming months as the current plan will eliminate parking entirely and renovate the “existing one-story commercial building,” according to the work permit from the NYC Department of Buildings posted on site.

Currently, the building’s inside is completely gutted and all the exterior signage has been removed. In addition, the old medical center’s entrance in the far right corner of the building has been completely opened up and expanded. There is also a smaller opening in the wall to the left of the old entrance, where a door was once present.

For now, the only feature that appears to be untouched is the building’s circular window to the right of the old entrance, which faces 129th street.

When asked what stores would be moving into the remodeled building, Lisa Marchisotto, the Executive Assistant to Michael Marino at MJM Associates, told The Wave she could not disclose this information without approval and would have to get back to us. This information, however, should be made available in the coming weeks.

Previously, Farina mentioned that she had heard a butcher shop expressed interest in opening up in the space as one of the five stores, but it is unclear at this time if that will come to fruition.
