Last night’s fatal car crash in Katy is believed to be the result of illegal street racing and Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shares updates. The incident proves that illegal racing is still very much a problem in the Katy area.
Deadly Crash Shows Illegal Street Racing is Still a Problem
Yesterday around 5:30 p.m. on Clay Road in Katy near the Grand Parkway a Camaro was racing a Mustang when a semi-truck turned in front of them. The driver of the Camaro drove underneath the trailer of the truck resulting in a crash.
Drivers Were Friends
According to Sheriff Gonzalez, the driver of the Camaro, a 20-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mustang (also 20-years-old) avoided the collision but hit a concreate median. He did return to the scene.
“Both drivers were friends,” says Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. “The driver of the Mustang, Oluwatise Gbadebo, has been charged with Racing Causing Death.”
According to authorities, Gbadebo admitted that he was racing the driver of the Camaro.
Illegal street racing is often a topic of great concern in the Katy area.
“It’s very dangerous and just doesn’t go away,” says Fort Bend County Constable Norvell. “People need to understand that it’s not a ticket, they will get arrested. These people don’t seem to learn from their lessons.”
