A 15-week-old baby has died after police said the baby’s mother and stroller were hit by a car in Lebanon on Monday morning.
Lebanon City police said the crash occurred just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of North 10th and Lehman streets.
Police said a vehicle, driven by a 60-year-old man, was going south on North 10th Street, a one-way street, and stopped for the red light at Lehman Street. Then on green, the car then turned left onto Lehman Street as the woman was pushing a baby stroller across the street.
The 28-year-old woman and the stroller carrying her baby were hit by the car, police said.
Google images show there are crosswalks at every branch of the intersection. Lebanon City Police Chief Todd Breiner confirmed the mother and stroller were within the crosswalk.
The mother was transported to a local medical facility for treatment and is recovering, police said. The baby died from the injuries suffered in the crash.
The driver of the car and his 4-year-old passenger were not injured, police said.
An autopsy is being scheduled for the infant, police said.
Breiner was unable to say whether charges were pending at this time.
“We investigate everything when a death is involved to some type of a criminal threshold, until we determine otherwise,” Breiner said.
Police are working with the Lebanon County District Attorney’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team, and the investigation is ongoing. Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call 717-272-6611.
