Drivers should expect possible delays on several major Poway roads with the start of the city’s annual street maintenance project next week.
The first phase of the annual roadwork is anticipated to start the week of May 24 and run through the end of June, said Rene Carmichael, Poway’s community outreach coordinator. Work will be done on Twin Peaks Road and Camino del Norte from the western city limit to Midland Road. Also part of phase one is Community and Midland roads between Twin Peaks and Poway roads. The project will address deep patch asphalt repairs.
The street work will require lane closures, which will change daily as the contractor completes repairs in each section of the road, Carmichael said. Police, fire and emergency vehicles will have full access during construction. Work will occur between 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Message signs have been stationed to notify motorists of road work information, Carmichael said. The most up-to-date information is available at poway.org/roads, including any detours.
Poway maximizes the use of public funds by applying the right treatment at the right time to extend the life of the pavement, Carmichael said. This approach maximizes pavement life using available and anticipated funding to keep Poway’s streets in good condition. Poway rotates street repairs, with one of eight street maintenance zones worked on each year. This year is zone four.
The project’s second phase will start in July and run through the end of August, Carmichael said.
