Main Street Lorain seeks executive director - cleveland.com

LORAIN, Ohio -- Now that it appears that the end of the pandemic is at least in sight, Main Street Lorain is looking for an executive director.

In 2020, the City of Lorain joined the Main Street program, which currently includes about 40 communities in Ohio and about 860 across the country, according to Heritage Ohio.

Joining the Main Street program usually means that a city is getting very serious about revitalizing its downtown area, creating a new economic vision for the entire city, promoting incentives and events to bring visitors to the city, and preserving the city’s history -- all to become a community that welcomes everyone from near and far.

The National Main Street Center was established as a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1980 as a way to “address the myriad issues facing older and historic downtowns during that time.”

The executive director’s position for the City of Lorain is one that will be filled by someone who is a visionary with a lot of experience -- especially with non-profits.

According to Main Street Lorain’s information, they seek “an organized, dynamic, energetic visionary to lead our Main Street community as executive director. This candidate must be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and capable of functioning effectively in an independent environment. This individual will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of the Main Street organization alongside of the Board of Directors.”

The responsibilities of the position include management of “all internal and external operations of Main Street Lorain, inclusive of but not limited to marketing and promotions, fundraising, event planning, advocacy and communications, leadership development, strategic planning and volunteer management.”

The executive director reports directly to the president of the board and the Board of Directors of Main Street Lorain.
