Authorities are investigating the cause of an apartment house fire in the City of Binghamton that sent black smoke billowing into the air that could be seen for miles late Sunday morning, March 21.
According to the Broome Firewire, the call reporting the fire at 59 Main Street behind the Taj Tandoor Restaurant came in at 11:37 a.m.
Firefighters encountered smoke and flame. Within minutes of the attack on the fire, crews on the second floor were told to clear away and a second alarm was sounded.
At least one resident was reported to have suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a local hospital. No other information was available.

An officer on the scene said he believed there were four apartments in the building.
Fire crews were on the scene most of the afternoon.
It's not known how many people were displaced by the fire in the two story building. Damage appeared to be extensive to both floors.
