MURRIETA, CA — Officials publicly identified a man Saturday who died in a fiery single-vehicle crash on the 215 Freeway Thursday. Police suspect the man was street racing on the freeway but the incident remains under investigation.
The crash was reported at 4:55 p.m. Thursday on the southbound side of the freeway at the Los Alamos Road off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Riverside County coroner's office identified the man as Enrique Guzman Flores, 26, of Menifee. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported just before 5 p.m. Thursday on the southbound freeway at the Los Alamos Road off-ramp.
Witnesses told investigators they saw the driver weaving through traffic at over 100 mph prior to the crash.
When the vehicle, a Subaru WRX, reached the Los Alamos Road off-ramp, it slammed into a guardrail and then into a tree in the shoulder area before catching fire, according to the CHP.
