I am a property owner in the Fairmont area of Lockport (unincorporated Will County).
For almost two years now, I have been asking for a street light to be installed at the northern corner of Luther and Rosalind. I have had constant garbage-dumping issues that, I believe, could be alleviated with just a little illumination.
However, because it is unincorporated Lockport at the edge of the Joliet boundary, this request has fallen by the wayside. I started my initial attempt in December 2018. I’ve inquired with Joliet Township, Lockport Township, Will County Land Use and the Lockport Township Highway Department, all to no avail.
The Lockport Township highway commissioner has been working on the issue, yet said it is in Joliet Township’s jurisdiction. The city of Joliet has emphatically told me “No, we have no money for this.” And Will County government has stated there is a long-term project to redo all of the street lights in the area, yet I have not seen one iota of movement to make any such project happen.
As a property owner, this “dead zone” creates quite a dangerous area because it is the only street corner in the entire area that does not have a street light. There is an existing pole on the Joliet side, and there are lines on the Will County side, yet no one wants to make this happen.
I have spoken with a few other residents on that corner, and we all are in agreement that this needs to happen.
Can someone just cut through all of the jurisdictional red tape, take ownership of the situation and just make this happen?
