DAVISON — City council unanimously approved the low bid from Eastern Asphalt of $93,591 for the paving of Church and Dayton streets at its Sept. 28 meeting.
The city will receive a $4,000 discount for having both streets done at the same time with the Eastern Asphalt bid. Other companies who submitted bid were Yeager Asphalt for $96,000 and Allied Construction for $150,590 (or $127,306 if done the same day).
Councilman Chris Hinkley said he understood the resurfacing had a potential lifespan of 7-12 years. He questioned if the Department of Public Works would have a maintenance plan in place to keep the street life longer.
DPW Supervisor Ed Brown said the department will try to keep it crack sealed 3-5 years down road to potentially add life to the streets
Hinkley asked if the work could be done inexpensively, to which City Manager Andrea Schroeder said future funding was uncertain.
“We don’t know what kind of funding we’re going to get in the future,” said Schroeder. “Everything (in Lansing) has gone silent.”
When the work is done, Schroeder said Church Street and Dayton Street, from Lexington to Cambridge, would be closed for up to three days with residents being able to access their driveways.
