Speed-reducing street project approved in east Ann Arbor - MLive.com

ANN ARBOR, MI -- Devices intended to slow down traffic will be placed on Ann Arbor’s southeast side.

Residents and property owners along Fernwood Avenue, from Packard to Lorraine streets, proposed a “traffic calming” plan in October 2018 for the neighborhood, which will include a median, raised intersection, speed tables and a raised crosswalk, city records show.

City officials conducted a speed study in March and held a second meeting in June. City council on Monday, Sept. 21 approved the project to start during the 2020 construction season, according to a resolution.

The project is expected to cost $152,435, which will be funded through the approved fiscal year 2021 engineering local street fund operations and maintenance budget.

Project area details include:

  • Raised intersection at Lorraine and Fernwood
  • Raised crosswalk at 3260 and 3265 Fernwood Avenue
  • Median island on Fernwood, close to Packard Street
  • Speed table at 3400 3405 Fernwood Avenue
  • Speed table at 3160 and 3165 Fernwood Avenue
