JACKSON, MI – A Jackson woman who stopped to pick up a sandal that fell off her foot while crossing the street Monday night was hit by a car that kept on going, police say.
Officers were called shortly before 9:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, to E. Ganson and N. Waterloo streets for a report of hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian, Jackson Director of Police and Fire Services Elmer Hitt said.
Witnesses told police the woman was walking west across N. Waterloo Street at the E. Ganson Street intersection when she lost a sandal in the street and stopped to pick it up, Hitt said.
At the same time, an SUV heading north on N. Waterloo Street drove through the intersection, struck the woman and continued north without stopping, Hitt said.
Investigators determined the traffic light at the intersection was green when the SUV passed through it, Hitt said.
The woman, who appeared to have several abrasions and a cut on her head, was taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Health for treatment where she is listed in stable condition, Hitt said.
Witnesses where unable to provide a plate number for the vehicle, but the suspect vehicle is believed to be green Jeep Cherokee SUV, Hitt said.
No arrests have been made and the incident remains under investigation.
