Almost 22 months after the west wall of the building at 200 E. High St. collapsed into it, a portion of Madison Street in downtown Jefferson City is once again open to two-way traffic.
Since the wall collapsed, the northbound lane of Madison Street at East High Street has been closed off to traffic as pieces of the wall lay in the street. Earlier this month, the city demolished the building and cleared the road.
Britt Smith, operation division director for the city’s Public Works Department, said work will continue around the site where the building used to be, but the street should remain open during that time.
Unrelated to the demolition, pavement repair work will start soon two blocks south at the intersection of Madison and McCarty streets.
