New York City sports bar brand Proper 21 will open its second D.C. location next month, bringing over-the-top cheeseburgers, family-style flat iron steaks, and a dozen draft beers to K Street NW.
NIEUW Group, which also owns Manhattan Proper and Proper West in NYC, will introduce Proper 21K (2033 K Street NW) with an opening party full of all-night deals on Friday, April 3.
Proper 21 entered the D.C. market in 2016 with a Proper 21 in Penn Quarter. The latest location has room for 120 seats inside and around 60 patio seats — about three times as many as its other local location.
Dishes from chef-partner Steve Forbes focuses at the K Street outpost will include build-your-own wraps with a choice of three bases (tacos, lettuce, or steamed buns) and fillings like crispy chicken, mojo pork, or spicy tuna. The Proper Burger comes with bacon, white cheddar, American cheese, “bistro” onions, and dijonnaise. There’s also a District burger with chicken skin cracklins, mumbo sauce, and a DC Brau aioli.
A section of entrées including brick chicken, flat-iron steak, and ginger-glazed salmon is available in family-size or individual portions after 5 p.m. under a deal that comes with a $19 bottle of wine.
The kitchen will be open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the bar open until last call.
An all-night opening party on Friday, April 3, kicks off with a happy hour at 5:30 p.m. featuring $5 beer and wine, plus buy-one-get-one crushes in six flavors. Starting at 8:30 p.m., there will be music from DJ Dior, free passed appetizers, drink specials, bar tab raffles, and more. A regular BOGO crush happy hour will run weekdays from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Proper 21 switches up the menu every quarter to rotate in local ingredients. Expect at least 12 taps for beer and 25 wines.
