Construction is nearing completion on 127 Leroy Street, a nine-story residential building in the West Village. Designed by BKSK Architects and developed by Shibumi Development, the 124-foot-tall reinforced concrete structure topped out in early 2018 and the glass and stone curtain wall is now substantially complete, with only small portions on the top floors left to be enclosed. The site is bounded by Leroy Street, Washington Street, and Greenwich Street, and was formerly occupied by a one-story warehouse for Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors, which has since moved to North Bergen, New Jersey.
Photos show the symmetrical building, with its stone podium walls topped by a glass-clad upper massing. The lower section features a grid of recessed windows with sharp stone corners. The setback serves as an outdoor terrace.
A triplex spans the cellar and second floor. The third floor through the fifth floor house two units per floor. The final four levels house a massive quadruplex that features outdoor terraces with views of the Hudson River. Twelve parking spots will be located in the cellar, and amenities for residents include recreation space and a ground-floor courtyard.
127 Leroy Street is one of several new projects transforming this section of Greenwich Village, which once contained a number of a commercial and industrial properties. The nearby Hudson Square neighborhood is also seeing the same rejuvenation as residential developers and tech companies like Google and Disney take over lots and abandoned buildings and turn them into new condominiums, office complexes, and corporate headquarters.
127 Leroy Street should likely finish before the end of the year.
