EASTHAMPTON — The state Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting Monday about a proposed $4.2 million downtown road improvement project slated for 2022.
The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Easthampton Municipal Building at 50 Payson Ave. According to the DOT’s highway division, in a statement, the project will consist of intersection and other road work on Union Street (Route 141) from Payson Avenue to High Street.
Improvements to the roads would include full-depth road reconstruction with new sidewalks for pedestrians, bicycle lanes, wheelchair ramps and signal operations, according to the DOT.
“A shared use accommodation consisting of a wide travel lane is provided for a portion of the project with shared use markings. Bicycle lanes are provided throughout the remainder of the project and are designed in accordance with applicable design guidelines,” the statement said. “The improvements enhance connectivity to the Manhan Rail Trail, which bisects the City from south to north.”
The project team will be at the public hearing, and all views and comments expressed by the public will be “reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible,” the statement said.
According to the state DOT website, the project is expected to begin construction in the spring of 2022 and is funded by the Transportation Improvement Program for the Pioneer Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization.
