
Steuart Street
to Beale Street
Turn restrictions at Steuart and Mission streets will prevent cars from traveling north on Steuart. Turns onto Market Street will be blocked from Davis Street and Main Street, and southbound right turns will be prohibited from Drumm Street. Cars heading north on Spear Street would have to turn right at Market. Spear between Market and Mission will eventually become two-way, though that change won’t take effect immediately.

Beale Street

to Third Street
Turns onto Market will be blocked from Montgomery, Post, Second, Bush, Battery and Fremont streets. The southbound right turn from Battery and Bush would be restricted to emergency vehicles. Cars heading north on Second would have to turn right at Stevenson Street.

Third Street
to Fifth Street

Ellis Street will become one-way in the westbound direction between Market and Cyril Magnin streets. Current turn prohibitions from Fifth, Cyril Magnin, Eddy, Stockton, O’Farrell and Third streets would remain. Vehicles traveling east on O’Farrell would be required to turn left onto Grant Avenue.

Fifth Street
to Eighth Street
Turn restrictions from Seventh Street, Golden Gate Avenue, Sixth Street and Mason Street will stay in place, and the city will also prevent turns onto Market from McAllister and Jones streets. A forced right turn will remain at Turk Street for vehicles driving south on Mason, while southbound vehicles on Jones will turn right onto McAllister. Left turns will be required at Turk and McAllister. The city will also convert several streets from one-way to two-way. They include: Jones between McAllister and Golden Gate, Turk between Taylor and Market streets, and Mason between Market and Eddy streets.
Eighth Street
to 12th Street
Northbound vehicles on Ninth Street and southbound vehicles on Polk and Fell streets will be blocked from turning onto Market. However, southbound vehicles on Van Ness Avenue will be permitted to turn right. Current mandatory right turns will remain for cars heading north on 11th Street or east on Market toward 10th Street. Long-term, left and right turn prohibitions will force southbound cars on Grove and Hyde streets to proceed straight when they hit Market.
Octavia Boulevard
to 12th Street
Ulimately, left turns will no longer be allowed from Page Street onto Market or from 12th Street onto Page.
Transit lanes
Once the project is complete, the center transit lanes on Market will be reserved for Muni. Officials will also extend those lanes east from Third to Main, the busiest stretch for transit service. The F streetcar line will have a new loop along McAllister Street and Charles J. Brenham Place.
Traffic signals
Traffic lights and signals along the artery will be overhauled, with new pedestrian countdowns, new turn signals, new stop signs, new bicycle signals, new poles and even new buttons. A set of old “lollipop” signals that date to the 1960s will get a full upgrade.
Parking
The six metered parking spaces east of Spear will be eliminated, along with 227 spaces on cross streets and side streets, which will be converted to commercial loading.
Bicycles
The quick-build will add improvements to bicycle intersections at Eighth, Page, Battery and Valencia streets.
