The closing of an unimproved portion of a street in Belhaven won the approval of the city of Jackson Site Plan Review Committee.
The committee approved closing an unimproved portion of Belmont Street that is located west of Linden Place.
Mark and Nicole Lampton petitioned the city to close the piece of Belmont Street. The abutting property owner, The Keeping it Real Estate, LLC, consented to the closing and indicated that piece of property is not needed to access its property at 1332 Belvoir Place.
Council member Virgi Lindsay of Ward 7 said the section of the street that would be closed looks like a vacant lot and has never been developed. “This would allow the city to get it back on the tax roll,” she said.
The Jackson city council is scheduled to vote on the ordinance to close the section of the street at its next meeting. The ordinance would become effective 30 days after passage and after publication by the municipal clerk.
