Bay City to reopen streets as Feet on the Street season ends - MLive.com

BAY CITY, MI - The cold weather is making it less appealing to sit outside with a fruity cocktail. The shift to colder, fall weather means that Bay City’s ‘Feet on the Street’ outdoor dining initiative will be coming to the end of its 2021 season.

Roads that were closed for outdoor dining this summer will start to reopen. The bollards, which are the yellow poles that were put in place to prevent traffic from entering the outdoor dining areas, were already removed along Third Street and Adams Streets. Both Third and Adams are now back open to traffic. The city released a notice that the Department of Public Works will be removing the remaining bollards on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at the following locations:

West Side

  • 600 block of E. Midland Street (between Henry Street and Linn Street)
  • 100 block of Linn Street (between E. Vermont Street and E. Midland Street)

East Side

  • 800 block of Saginaw Street (between 5th Street and Center Avenue)
  • 200 block of Center Avenue (between Saginaw Street and Washington Avenue)

The Feet on the Street program was originally launched in 2020 to allow businesses to expand their seating areas outdoors into selected streets while redirecting vehicle traffic, with the ultimate goal of helping boost local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As more roads begin to reopen downtown, the city is reminding residents to be aware of multiple changes that were made to intersections in downtown. The intersections of North Water Street and Center Avenue and North Water and 3rd streets were recently changed to all-way stops. The intersection of Center and North Water is located directly in front of the main entrance to Wenonah Park while the 3rd Street intersection is located to the north by the Third Street Star Bridge district.

Intersections throughout downtown Bay City also had their traffic signals changed to multiple four-way stops as well, with these changes having first taken place in Nov. 2020.
