Emporia preparing for downtown pavement project as Street Rehab work continues - KVOE

With Emporia’s Street Rehab program possibly ending by late September, the city’s Engineering Department is looking ahead to the next big project.

City Engineer Jim Ubert says work on the Kansas Department of Transportation’s City Connecting Link Program, or C-CLIP, could start in early October.

A pre-construction meeting is tentatively set for the first half of September to concentrate on scheduling. The exact work flow is also pending.

Meanwhile, the Street Rehab program is well into the pavement phase after several months of work on handicapped-accessible sidewalk ramps and curb and gutter repairs. Work zones have included:

*Ninth from Elm to Lawrence
*12th from Commercial to Whittier
*Belmont Court
*Congress at the railroad underpass
*Elm from Sixth to Grove
*Mechanic from South to Second
*Mount Vernon Terrace at 21st
*Old Manor Road
*Randolph from Neosho to West
*Soden Road
*South Exchange
*Trowman Way

Several streets have received asphalt paving and are simply awaiting striping before they are done, while others have been milled but have not yet been paved. Ubert says most of the upcoming pavement work will move to the northwest across town, but the last project is a second round of asphalt on South Exchange near the David Traylor Zoo.
