We read with interest your recent article (“Street racers invading Sun City,” Sun City Independent, Nov. 25, 2020).
By golly, we have the same, or similar, racers invading at least two of our main streets in Sun City Grand as well! Our home backs up to the intersection of Mountain View Boulevard and Sequoia Crest. In late October we became annoyed with at least one racer speeding eastbound on Mountain View Boulevard at approximately 10 p.m. in the evening. In 15 minutes the racer returned westbound, speeding toward our Cimarron Center.
The racer’s vehicle motor was loudly distinctive and, when it wasn’t on our roadway, we could clearly hear it — perhaps in the direction of Loop 303 over the next hour or so. When we called the Surprise Police Department, an office came out to patrol that and surrounding intersections for about two hours. We have not had this racer in our community since that time — although the racer’s distinctive motor is still heard in the area.
We were particularly concerned about this, especially during the daylight hours when residents are out walking. Many residents besides ourselves have nearly been hit by cars not slowing down or stopping, although they could clearly see a pedestrian in the crosswalk. Speeding cars are very problematic on Mountain View Boulevard, even though a city speed monitoring device has been placed along this route several times.
We contacted the Sun City Grand HOA and they recommended contacting the Surprise Police Department, which we did. We need a Four-way stop at the corner of Mountain View Boulevard and Sequoia Crest. Perhaps a recommendation from Sun City Grand HOA might be a powerful avenue to pursue this serious problem together?
