LEWISTON, ID - Lewiston Police were called to a traffic collision in the 600 block of 21st Street just before 8:00 p.m. on Thursday after callers reported that a vehicle had hit a pedestrian in the roadway. Officers arrived to find a male laying in the northbound lanes near the bottom of 21st Street with serious injuries. There was a 2012 Black Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped at the scene as well.
A press release from Lewiston Police says the evidence and witnesses indicate that the Jeep was traveling northbound on 21st Street and struck the pedestrian as he was crossing 21st Street westbound. Lewiston Fire Department medics arrived to attend to the pedestrian, who would later be pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lewiston Police Department's Major Collision Investigation Team was called out to investigate. Police say the names of the those involved in the collision are not being released until the family of the deceased can be notified.
The northbound lanes of 21st Street were closed from 8th Avenue to Main Street for over 2 hours. Police say the initial investigation indicates that alcohol and drugs were not a factor. The Lewiston Police Department is looking for anyone who might have witnessed the collision that has not yet spoken to the police. If you have any information, call (208) 746-0171.
