Update: American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance transported someone from the Bear Street bridge overlooking Interstate 81, where a woman was attempting to jump Monday evening, officials said.
Syracuse police were following the ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse and continuing to investigate.
I-81 North reopened around 6:05 p.m.; I-81 South reopened a short time later, according to Onondaga County 911 dispatchers.
Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse police have closed part of Interstate 81 in all directions while they respond to reports of a suicidal woman on the Bear Street bridge.
Numerous people called the Onondaga County 911 Center starting at 5:37 p.m. to report a woman attempting to jump from the Bear Street bridge onto I-81, dispatchers said.
I-81 South was closed at Hiawatha Boulevard, past the Bear Street on-ramp.
I-81 North also was closed at Court Street, before Bear Street, dispatchers said.
Syracuse police and firefighters, and American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance responded to the scene.
